Acoustic test bench conception

Novicos supports you with experience and know-how in the concept development for acoustic test benches.

  • Definition of test targets

    We examine the component with regard to its function, materials, typical wear or failure patterns, and acoustic properties, and support you in formulating test targets. 

  • Development of test criteria

    Determining the properties to be tested, such as sound pressure level, vibrations or resonance frequencies. Definition of threshold values and tolerance ranges based on concrete requirements, empirical values or industry standards.

  • Design of your test bench

    Design of the acoustic test stand with suitable measurement methods (sensor types) and appropriate measurement methodology. Ensuring compliance with acoustically necessary boundary conditions at the test stand as well as its environment (neighboring machines and process timing).

Mechanical design of your acoustic test stand

We design your acoustic test stand e.g. for the integration of the Anovis system from Siemens. We take into account conceptual requirements as well as the real conditions in the production hall.

Base frame

The base frame of the test stand should be stable and robust to minimize vibrations and oscillations during the test. Materials such as steel or aluminum are often used for the frame.

Decoupling

To reduce sound transmission and interference, decoupling elements (e.g. rubber buffers, vibration dampers) should be provided between the test stand and the environment and between individual test stand components.

Positioning of the sensors

Sensors (e.g. microphones, accelerometers) should be positioned so that they can optimally detect the sound signal or the vibrations of the component without being affected by interference or reflections.

Holding devices

A suitable holding device is required to securely and stably fix the device under test (DUT). The fixture should be designed so that it does not interfere with the signal and allows reproducible positioning of the DUT.

Soundproof booth or shielding

To reduce ambient noise and improve measurement conditions, the test stand can be set up in a soundproof booth or fitted with acoustic shielding. In most cases, however, we can design the equipment so that vibrations are measured and a soundproofing measure is completely unnecessary.

Acoustic test stand commissioning

We support you in integrating the system into your production, commission the test stand and train your personnel in the use of hardware and software. 

System integration

Autonomous use in the laboratory, partially automated integration as a manual test station (programming of executables/routines) or fully automated integration (support for PLC integration).

Ensuring the runnability

Commissioning of the system with remote and on-site test runs. Step-by-step increase of process complexity via single run, repetition runs and final test of runability in series production. 

Documentation and training

Preparation of documentation of test criteria and procedures for quality assurance guidelines and training of employees in the use of hardware and software.

Acoustic testing of components

Which properties can be tested? 

In general, the acoustic environment of a production hall (machine noise) is not a problem for the acoustic testing of components. Since the vibration and acoustic properties are interconnected, they can be merged with suitable methods.

Accelerometers

Vibrations and oscillations: Detection of imbalances, bearing damage or mechanical defects

Structural dynamics: analysis of resonance frequencies, damping characteristics and vibration modes

Wear and condition monitoring: early detection of material fatigue or system wear

Laser sensors (e.g. laser Doppler vibrometer)

Non-contact vibration and oscillation: Analysis without direct contact to the component, ideal for sensitive materials or surfaces

High-precision measurements: Fast, accurate and high-resolution detection of vibrations and movements

Structural analysis: investigation of sound radiation, vibration modes and material investigation

Microphone sensors

Sound pressure level and frequency spectrum: detection of operating noise, analysis of sound sources and identification of anomalies

Acoustic emissions: Monitoring of sounds generated by cracks, leaks or material degradation.

Performance testing of acoustic components: Testing of loudspeakers, microphones and other acoustic components.
